Our window into the world- keeping your eyes healthy
When it comes to life, people have different opinions. Some say that it is made of several huge things, while on the other hand the vast majority can agree that it is made of many different things , the small things, which make this world a big place. Those small things are usually neglected, and receive less attention than they should. For instance, let us take the eyes as an example: they are the mirror of the soul, one`s own reflection. Yet, they are neglected in most cases, and people don’t pay attention to them until it is too late. This is where it all starts.
Eyes are the jewels which make it possible for everyone to enjoy life to the fullest, witness all the beauties and engage in many actions and life-changing events. Without eyes, this world would be a dark and horrible place, filled with fear of the unknown. That is why everyone should keep their eyes healthy, regardless if it’s the case when they are watching a movie on their computers or reading a book. There are several known ways in which one can keep his eyes healthy and safe, and among them is food.
Are you eating healthy food?
The health of the eyes starts with the morning plate. Nutrients such as omega 3-fats, zinc, vitamin C and E and lutein can help you prevent the eyes from falling into macular degeneration, which is an age related eye illness. Eating these ingredients on a daily basis can help you maintain healthy eyes, and even improve vision. Some of the famous foods which are typically good for improving general eye health are green veggies (especially the leafy ones like spinach and kale), salmon and tuna, eggs, nuts, oranges, kiwi, and the best known one-carrot.
Another super important thing is to create a well balanced diet. Staying fit can help you in many ways, and keeping a healthy weight can ward off many diseases, including diabetes, which is the world’s leading cause of blindness. No matter if it’s the type 1 or 2, diabetes is to blame for the loss of sight.
Are you a smoker?
If you are a smoker, consider quitting. Smokers have a high chance of getting cataracts and optic nerve damage, including macular degeneration. Dry eyes are the first symptom of eye-related illnesses, and the doctor should be consulted immediately. If the eyes stay dry for too long, the optic nerves will get damaged and the loss of sight will follow.
Sunglasses may do the work
Believe it or not, but the UV rays are among the leading causes of macular degeneration and cataracts. Wearing sunglasses which protect 99 to 100 percent of both UV and UVB rays is the best solution. Also, consider using polarized lenses if you are driving too often. For those who wear contact lenses, it is always recommended to wear sunglasses over them for extra protection. Wraparound lenses are also a great choice, for they protect the penetration of the rays from the sides. One can never be too careful when it comes to protecting his own eyes.
Keep your eyes healthy and you will maintain a healthy soul. It is not to difficult to take some counter measures and keep your eyes protected, but keep in mind that it is impossible to recover them to their genuine state. Verdict – better to be safe than to be sorry.
