Cleansing: Selecting One Good Soap

Soap Situation

Beauty Store Depot 300×250

I’ve been doing my own research on which of the mainstream bar soaps I can honestly recommend for face washing. In our house, there’s not a lot of budget, or room in the bathroom for a lot of products. I buy one soap and that’s what you’ll find on the ledge in the shower next to the towel. If you want to visit, I’ll give you your own bar and your own towel. In my next life, I’m going to have Jack and Jill sinks and a complete line of upscale cosmetics arranged in my personal vanity. For now, this is it.

Soap Sampling

As for face washing, I need a good, all-purpose soap that will neither dry out, nor over-moisturize my face. If you’ve been following my posts, you already know that I have an oily t-zone, and I’ve told you too much already. I also need a soap that will last at least a week, at a use rate of two to four showers a day. I’ve tried three so far. I bought the economical 6-bar packages, to give each a fair chance. Below are the soaps I’ve tried so far, with their product descriptions.

Dial™ AntiOxidant
Power Berries Vitamin Infused Glycerin Bar Soap

“This glycerin soap rinses clean, to reveal soft, younger looking skin. Infused with cranberry, raspberry and pomegranate extracts, its powerful antioxidant protection is your skin’s daily defense. To help you look your healthy best.” (

Dove™ Sensitive Skin Unscented Beauty Bar

“Dove Sensitive Skin Unscented Beauty Bar pampers sensitive skin with Dove ¼ moisturizing cream, and a truly mild formula that’s fragrance-free, hypoallergenic and unscented. Dove is the #1 cleansing bar recommended by dermatologists and pediatricians.” (

Lever Brothers 2000™

“Get a fresh, clean scent with Original Bar and Body Wash. Our advanced formula has an optimal combination of skin hydrators and sunflower seed oil that won’t dry out your skin.” (

Soap Satisfaction

My results are based on my skin type and usage, and only represent my personal opinion. You may get completely different results, and should take advantages of store sales to try a variety of soaps at your house.

I have to say that each of the soaps lived up to its description, and I could recommend each of them. However, if I had to choose my favorite, it would be the Dove.™ I really liked the moisture-rich bar. It left my face  soft and smooth with no dryness, and didn’t aggravate the oily areas of my skin. The only drawback in using this type of bar for your all-purpose shower soap is that it doesn’t last as long. A beauty bar is a little smaller and softer. If you just use it on your face, your dollar will go further. I’m spoiled now, and in love with the Dove!™
